Commonly confused as a direct accendent of The Starbeats, it was infact only Mervyn & Pete who moved from The Starbeats into the Falcons. The original line-up of the band had been performing as The Strollers only months earlier but had changed their name to avoid confusion with Danny Eves & The Strollers from Kings Lynn who had started gigging quite regularly throughout Norfolk and in particularly at the groups own residency at the Norwich City supporters club
[recheck]
Struggling to produce a stable line-up the group pulled in survivors from Mark Preston’s Vendors who were on the verge of collapsing. By November 1963 the group had brought in the talents of guitarist Pete Leonard and vocalist Mervyn Hurn from the de- funked Starbeats to become Mervyn Hurn & The Falcons a connection made through drummer Mick Thurbon who had managed the group in it’s latter stages. Thoroughly Impressed by the group and the now rapidly growing audiences the band were taken under the wing of local promoter and agent Norman Guest. Normans first impression on the band was to slightly modify the groups signature advertising them as Mervyns's Blues & The Falcons before putting the band onto the east coast circuit, and securing appearances with many name bands throughout 1964 & 1965. Many past members agree on special moments such as an outdoor summer gig supporting Manfred Mann at Kilverston Hall on September 5th 1964 and also backing top Swedish Instrumentalists The Spotnicks at Thetfords, Lynford Hall on . In May 1965 the group were very much conspicuous by there absents in the county’s Mercury big beat competition, however this was not a deliberate snub the band schedule was just to full. The group who were by now very much semi pro continued in this format until late 1965 when major line-up changes and a name change to The Ultimate effectively saw the end of the Falcons.
