Alan, David & Eric broke away from The Caveliers in [month required] 1963. Drummer Russell Howlett was recruited straight from school at the age of fifthteen having only previously made infrequent appearances with local resident jazz outfits. Ex Norman school pupil Alan Cunningham had left the forces in January 1960 and as a natural entertainer fancied himself as a bit of an Elvis impersonator and took to the frontman roll. Bob had previously been a member of the Caveliers but had left the band left the band in 196 and was replaced by Chris Read next to leave was Russell Howlett at first with the idea of finishing with drumming for good but months later he was playing with Sprowston band The Statesmen. The line up then settled
One of the groups finer moments was the backing of Mannfred Mann at an outdoor concert at Kilverston Hall in [month required] 1964 along with another local band Mervyn & The Falcons. Roger Mayes unfortunatley missed the event and his stand-in was the Falcons drummer Mick Corbyn??Thurbon
The group became regulars at The Firs playing every Thursday & Sunday and even playing the emotional last night for all not only was it the bands last gig but also the last night before the closing of the Norwich speedway clud, The Firs
David Cooper traded his guitar for family life in September 1965 and for a while the band became a fourpiece. On the 16th April 1966 The Kriptones played their last gig at the Cottage Public House, Thunder Lane, Norwich and moved on to become The Limited Company
Alan now works for laurence Scott & Electromotors
Supports: Manfred Mann / The Fortunes / Ricky Bowden & The Escorts / Curtis & Company / The Quiet Five
