The Toffs were formed by Moore and Moon at the end of their skiffle days at Jarrolds Social Club with their previous group The Footprints Skiffle Group. It took a while to get a settled line-up.
"The Toffs were going long before Pete Barron and I joined. A couple of members had left the original group and we filled the gap. Pete and I were chums at the CNS. He had been taking lessons and playing for a couple of years, not for any group! His aunt was a director at Anglia TV and she arranged an audition. We wish she hadn’t, not least since I hadn’t been playing that long. I needed to borrow a guitar for the audition and another school friend was Roger Bunn’s cousin, so I used his. The Toffs hadn’t played together for 3 or 4 months so when he (Roger Bunn) heard we were auditioning he invited us to join. I think he probably regretted it since he quickly discovered my playing skills were poor. Still, Pete was going to acquire a bass so they had to put up with me. I practiced like there was no tomorrow and we were good to go after about 3 months." RM06/06/2020
Hooper was later asked to join the band on the strength of his guest slots with The Alley Katz Skiffle Group when Bunn had decided that the band would sound good performing Everly Brother duets. Although Bunn soon moves on and is replaced by Alan Callf. The band are still together in 1962 as the band attended and played at the wedding of Callf.
Stars such as Rod Stewart [unconfirmed] and local guitarist Tony Sheridan who guested with the band when in Norwich.
Hooper says the first signs of the bands demise came when guitarist Murray's parents who ran the now demolished Princess of Wales PH, Rouen Road moved away. Murray
