Here begins the story of the local rock legend Tony Sheridan, Born Anthony Esmond O’Sheridan McGinnity in Norwich in May 1940. Mac as he was known to his friends attended the City Of Norwich School (CNS). Plagued with family trouble Mac runs into trouble with the Police when he steals an old violin from school and porn’s it to buy his first guitar, caught he is cautioned by the Police who advise his parents to buy him a guitar.
He formed The Saints skiffle group whilst a member of the Thorpe St Andrew youth club. During this time the gifted Mac inspires and helps many of his friends to start playing. The first glimpse of the band in action came in May 57 when they performed a concert at the Youth Club. The group went on to perform many local concerts after this date. Some under banner The Saints and sometimes billed as Mac & The Saints.

The most As testament to the influence of Tony, most people remember The Saints which is quite remarkable considering that they only performed on the local scene for 8 months during 1957 in which time they won Norwich’s first ever skiffle contest in held at the Industries Club in June 57, The group were advertised under several guise’s during their brief the most common being Mac & The Saints but a glimpse into his future came when on the 1st of October 1957 the name Tony Sheridan first appeared in the press, even though incorrectly spelt, it is a mile stone until now undiscovered. It is said the band were often at their best when supported by Grey a young child star with a gift for the Saints played their farewell gig at the Cottage Ballroom on 18th of November 1957, while in London
