Gillespie first crops up on the radar in March 1963 as the resident band of the newly opened Boars Head Continental Restaurant, Nch. During his time there he also plays regularly with Norwich City Goal Keeper Sandy Kennon on vocals at The Nelson PH, GY. Gillespie departs the Boars Head in mid 1964 and for a while is seen playing at The Manor Grill, Happisburgh. In 1967 he is seen playing in The Freddy Marrison Set in residence at The Tower Ballroom, GY and soon after fronting his own Trio at the same venue. The group had many guest vocalists duringing its time at The Tower and in June 1968 is joined by ex ?? Singer Christine Vance.
