The word ecclectic was invented for groups like Zoe. The group dominated the local Here & Now pages of the early seventies. In May 1973 Zoe beat 21 acts in the Southern Semi Finals of the Melody Maker National Rock/Folk Competition at the Imperial College, London. Among their set they performed originals Tasty & TV Times both written by guitarist Chai Nanakhorn.

"The band was formed in 1970 with Rob Bartlett (Lead Guitar); Mick Edwards (accoustic guitar); Rob Payne (bass); Mike Nagel (flute); Dave Shirt (vocal); John Thirkettle (drums). After a partal breakup some months down the road Terry Cousins replaced John Thirkettle on drums, Chai Nanakhorn replaced Rob Bartlett as Lead guitarist and Rick Knight came to play piano and vocals. This was the line up through the Melody Maker days until the final breakup in 1975. After that Dave Shirt kept the name going for a while with Chai and Terry plus a few others."
