"John and I recorded a mix of my earliest songs and his tunes. I sang, drummed and played the percussion, and John played the guitar, keyboards, bass, sax, and mandolin, sometimes all at once. We called ourselves The Time Factor because I had to catch a bus to his studio in Hethersett and recorded as much as possible before the last bus left. When I was keen to put a band together, John preferred to stick to studio recording. I put the first line up of Penguins Go Pop together in the late 80s and our set included one of the songs we had recorded. In the early to mid-90s we began recording again as King Penguin, eventually releasing a 5 track ep. Circumstance after this meant we didn't get to record again for 3-4 years but we did return to the studio again in the early 2000s. The Penguins reformed in 2013 and our album '20th Century Pop' was released in 2018 with 6 of the 14 songs being those that I had recorded with John in the 90s / early 2000s and also one from the 80s. John was and is one of the finest and multi-talented musicians that I have had the good fortune to work with. He only occasionally plays music now having other commitments but we are still in touch every few months." RF29/04/2020
