RHYTHM BOYS, THE (1)

Many young skifflers had started moving towards the Rock’n’Roll craze, elevated by US stars such as Chuck Berry, Bill Haley & Buddy Holly. This group got together at the Lanseer School in Ipswich to emulate their new found hero’s

 

Roy Clover had already been apart of the Black Aces skiffle group another act that had its derivation at the school. Ken Smith was soon replaced by Ron West who was a talented budding drummer who made the best of an upturned banjo head for his first sneer drum. Ken meanwhile formed The Limelight's. The group then added a second vocalist Rick Morgan, mainly for his Cliff Richard looks and it was this configuration that headed off down to the RCS Music Shop in Fore Street to cut their [demo details required] demo

 

The group were regulars on the town pub circuit. Mainly down to the lack of mobility early transportation took the form of a posse of wheelbarrows. The group drifted apart in [date required] and whilst attending art college Roy got a taste for Trad Jazz and along with Ron formed the short lived Pete Dixon Jazz Band the group also featured ex Black Ace skiffler Clive Tatton on Trombone. "We weren’t much credit to the jazz scene" admits Roy "We never played to many audiences, but we had great fun rehearsing." Roy then received a call from Ken Smith to join The Limelight’s and duly obliged. Roger moved on to join [band required] while Ron joined [band required]
