Colin had been strumming in The Nashville Five prior to putting together The Blue Beats in late 1963. His brother, although a stylist of the day, had for the best part of the early sixties been in denial of the influence that the burgeoning music scene was having on the younger generation. Colin elaborates, “He’d say ‘What’s all the fuss about!’ Then one day I caught him miming in the mirror to a pop record with a newly purchased bass guitar. He relented and started to play; it was at that point we found out he had a good voice.” The group had a succession of frontmen including ex Nashville Five frontman Trafford; followed by Burgess, who had been performing solo to high acclaim since September 1959, after being spotted and praised by the manager of Lowestoft South Pier at one of their talent sessions. Pincott adds, “Those were good days, I learnt a lot... and realised how much I wanted to play guitar.” The band lasted just over a year before the Pincotts helped form Aesop's Fabels.
