From early sixties instrumentalists to swinging beasters the Bury Strangers evolved effortlessly into soul band Barrie’s Magazine. In November 1968 the group were approached by Phil Beevis with the idea of becoming their booking agent. Beevis had just set up Norwich Artiste’s with John Fisher of The Melody Rooms, Norwich with the idea of promoting Norwich Acts. Phil was a big fan of the group
In [date required] the group travelled to a recording studio Southend to recorded Raymond Froggarts Always Goodbye Intended as a single release but the track never made it past the demo stage says guitarist Broome.
The Magazine were favourites of Slade who they back three times and in 1968 at Earlham Park they supported Ten Years After and Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick and Tich.
In 1973 for personal reasons Hull made the difficult decision to leave the band at which juncture sax player Cornwall also left the group. Taking the decision to continue as four piece they truncated their name to Magazine and headed off into the seventies. Today both John & Ray are successful business men within Bury St Edmunds
