"I was the bass player in This Perfect Gift. The nucleus of the band was Andy Ireland on vocals, Ian Morley (now in the band Basket Case) on guitar and backing vocals and Steve Allen on keys. That was the band that recorded for Bill Wyman's A.I.M.S. Project. Drummer Steve Anns and I were the gigging band. Depending on the venue, we added Phil Marshall on saxophone, Paul Freckle Anderson on trumpet and two female backing vocalists, Jo Morley and Sam Cross. The band won a contract with Wyman's, Ripple Records and a headline show with a cast of superstars. They also featured in a BBC2 TV programme about them winning the A.I.M.S. Project. I also played with Dreamthief at the same time, a clash of dates became inevitable and I decided to stay with Dreamthief as it was my creation along with Nigel Coote who I had played with in previous bands. Drummer Steve Anns later joined Dreamthief after our original guy Brett Robertson left. His replacement in the Gift was Kevin van Dort. I’m afraid I never did find out the new bassist’s name!"
