My first band was in 1972 . It was a four piece called "Checkers". The line up was myself on drums , Jimmy Lowe on Accordian/ Elec piano (Jimmy lived on the Heartsease estate, Lowe was a funny name for him as he was about 6 foot 7 inches tall !! ) a young chap called Bob on base Guitar( cant recall his second name at the moment, he also lived on the Heartsease. in the tower block I believe) and a young lady called Karen ( again my memory fails me on second name) who lived near Fakenham. We were quite popular round all the Norwich and local pubs ,in fact I dont think there were many that we hadnt played in on Fri/Sat and Sun nights . Then I played for singer Norwich Donny Betts and with a chap called Mike on Guitar. Then I worked with singer Basil Fox of Horsham Saint Faith. I later went on to play in the bands Young Creation, I was the original drummer in Aylsham band Denim, then with Checkers again ,but different members of Dale Hudson/ Mark Drane on Guitar, Richard Haines on keyboard, First Impression, Regency (for many years with them) . I played drums for about six years with a very popular country music band Accordian Steve And The Silver Ring Band ,(from Hunstanton ) we worked all over the UK but sadly Steve fell ill and passed away quickly and the band tried to keep going but eventually we all went our own ways. I then had a short break but was asked then to play drums for a local Norwich local music legend (especially in the 60s) Mr John Lofty ( of Little Melton) ,the band being known as the John Sinclair Showband . John Lofty was the last band I worked with , John passed away of a heart attack and the last ever gig I played was at the last Golden Years night held at the UEA. we got the band back together as a tribute to him , and I have not sat on a set of drums since that night! and yes I do miss it. Best wishes from Trevor Hewitt.
