Samantha Skipper was born in Hoveton, Norfolk in 19??.
"I first thought about singing in a band when I was 18 and going out with a guitarist of a band, I remember thinking to myself "I can do that!". I had done some amateur dramatics when I was younger which included some singing on stage and people had said then I should do more but it wasn't until that point I felt i had the confidence. Once I started I enjoyed it, I've tried lots of styles too. Mainland was my first band. I saw an advert and went along to an audition. I learned three of their songs and they took me on. It was all original material, we recorded a lot of tracks but I don't think it was commercial enough to get taken on at the time, although we loved it.
I then formed Retro in 1997 I wanted a change from doing originals and we played indie pop covers. It took a while to get the line-up right but once we clicked we were a good band. The original line-up was myself, Aindow, McFall and Smith. The final line-up was me, Garner, Dutch and Gay. We built up quite a following and played mainly covers from artists such as Alanis Morrisette, Garbage and The Cranberries etc but had started writing original material, one of which we recorded and gigged with. The band regularly played throughout East Anglia but folded in 2000." SS14/04/2020
