"Going back many years to when I was 11, our family holiday was at Pontins in Hemsby, Norfolk. There was always a good resident band who played all styles of music. The band was called Platform Soul. There were two girls on saxophones and they were playing a rocky version of The William Tell Overture. I thought it was great and asked my Dad if I could have a sax. I'd been reading music since I was four as I played recorders at school. My birthday arrived and so did my alto sax. I spent all my spare time at the music annexe at school. I had a teacher for a few lessons, then carried on myself with my Dads help. Soon I joined the school wind band. Then The Pale Moon Big Band was formed. All young school kids. We started as a trad jazz group that quickly became a bigger band with the Glenn Miller sound. Dad was a great trumpeter. He joined Pale Moon... and was one of the 'older' kids! The band ran for 25 years. I then learned clarinet, flute, occarinas and fife playing in many pit orchestras and guested with many groups. In '83 I joined White Line function band on sax and backing vocals, resident at The Copdock Hotel. Then The J.G. Reider Band followed by World Service. In '86 I went off to play sax for DFDS on some of their ships. Had a great time! In '93 I started working with Roger Kemp as Tyler-Kemp. We enjoyed gigs all over and outside the country. My sister Julie joined us 16 years ago to form Tyler-Kemp Plus One. We've been a very busy working band ever since." JK 18/01/2021
