Born Adelaide Street, Norwich in 1937. His father and mother ran a bakery in the same street. From the age of 6 his father would stand him on the bar in the local pub (Queen Victoria / Bread & Cheese, Adelaide Street - now demolished) so he could sing and the regulars would give him pennies. From here he joined The Sparkling Specials concert party and entertained at social clubs and events. In 1952 his parents took on the running of The Wellington Public House in Muspole Street from 52-58 (closed 30/04/62 later demolished) where he would also entertain the customers. Brian did national Service in the RAF between 1955-57 were he also sang in a band and even made an acetate album. His parents moved back into Adelaide Street in 1960 due to his father failing health.
