Alan Styles was born in South Shields, Tyne & Wear on 5th October 1936 moving to Cambridge not long after. He was a gifted singer and sang in the St Lukes Choir and has performed at the Kings college carol concerts. Having spent two years in the Merchant Navy he thought he was exempt from the National Service draft but was hauled off by military police one day and sent to Garmany. During his national service he taught himself to play piano, saxophone and clarinet. In the late 60's he became Pink Floyd's road manager and evenually settled in Sausalito, California, USA in 1973. He passed away on 8th December 2011
