Timber merchants Bembridge and Waller were good friends in the mid sixties, both sharing the same trade and in business with their fathers. Bambridge was renown for pottering about on his guitar and one day persuaded Waller to plug in a microphone and have a bash a singing. The unnamed duo first performed in public in September 1968 appearing at the Plough & Shuttle PH, Marsham. During November that year they were joined by Neave on percussion and started to perform regularly as Berrie & The Treetops yet a conventional line-up was not completed until a year later when Butcher by now a seasoned local musician who had help form The Continentals took on the roll of bass player. The growing reputation of the band saw coach loads of supporters attend coastal gigs. Butcher is soon replaced by Miller who had previouslt been with the The Millionaires but taken time out to get married. Founder member Waller called it a day in 1974 and with the band committed to a heavy gigging schedule line-up the changes became more frequent. The group finally logged off in 198?. Miller now manages his sons band Cloud Nine a sixties tribute band. The group reform in April 1993 to raise money for charity when Wallers daughter is diagnosed for Multiple Scelorosis, a second reunion planned a year later was halted by the sudden death of Bambridge who’s headstone bares the notes to “Midnight” by the shadows, His favourite tune.
