"It all started in the late fifties, and early sixties when I met Mick Davison. We were both big fans of the Everly Brothers and spent hours dissecting the records and learning the harmonies. It was around 1962 when we went for an audition with The Syndicate who were looking for a lead singer. I sang Tommy Roe’s, Sweet Little Shelia. Mick was so shy he sang the harmony for me, at the side of the stage and I got the job. Mick was to go on to much greater fame and success without me. The band consisted of Pete Eustace (rhythm), Richard Snape (lead), Terry Brown (bass) and Dave Baker on drums. Later Ian Bowen came in on drums. We played the local pubs and dances and eventually passed Joe Corney's audition to play the Corn Exchanges. We played Peterborough Corn Exchange on the day that The Four Pennies topped the bill just as they hit number one with Juliet. For a while, Owen Jones aka Ricky Fever was our manager. The band eventually formed the basis of The Soulmates with Lloyd Watson*, but I had left before then. Once we disband, that was it for me."
DW 2018 - David williams passed away in November 2021
* We could only see that Ian Bowen goes on to join The Soul Mates.
