Saunders put together his first band while he attended Denes High School in Lowestoft in ?? 1972 and recalls, “I had been musical from an early age. It probably came from going to church every Sunday and singing there; this carried on at school. At seven, I was the youngest person in the school orchestra. I played the recorder and always enjoyed singing. I started learning guitar at 15. I went to evening classes, and as I was still at school, the course was free. A very good folk guitarist/singer named Jim Brown taught me to start with and then just picked things up along the way. I now play mainly keyboards, which I taught myself. When I started, it was all the glam rock stars, Marc Bolan, Bowie etc that I  enjoyed. I formed Synchromesh at school with some mates. We played a few gigs over the year or so we were together. A couple of the band loved the Beach Boys, so we played a few of their numbers, and the rest were chart hits of the early seventies and sixties. We were only 16-18, and our drummer was only about 13! I couldn’t even drive at the start, and I can remember a couple of us walking about a mile and a half carrying our gear to rehearse at the drummers’ house.” Saunders is next seen in Spyda.
