"Moonshine were a first year students’ rock band at UEA, Norwich in 1972-3. The band played sharp, hard-edged guitar music, rock’n’roll, jazzy boogie, acid-style rock, and (of course) cover versions, and held a number of jam sessions in The Barn at University Village.

The band played party gigs for private birthdays, and at Christmas, and joined other Norfolk bands at the outdoor Vernal Equinox Celebration Concert played in front of the UEA Ziggurats on 22/03/1973, photos of which feature on the University's official website to this day, and in the UEA Gig Guide History. The band 'reformed' for an evening to entertain students conducting a Sit-In in the main university buildings on 30/11/1973.

Moonshine were one of the first, if not THE first group to ever play at the brand new UEA Student Union Concert Hall, now known as The LCR, when they were support act to weird psychedelic/occult band Saturnalia in April or possibly May 1973.

The band's two guitarists went on to have very significant careers in the music business in the UK and in Germany, while the rhythm section, which originated from Enfield, North London, did other, non-musical things, although the bass player was a member of Essex folk group Belladonna in the early 80s.

Moonshine's roadie, who used to ferry the group's kit around in an old Wartburg van, also went on to work in the music business..... as a roadie, and could be seen scurrying around the stage at festivals and concerts in the 70s.

Formed: October 1972 / Disbanded: June 1973" HN 06/03/22
