John Watling bought a beat up guitar back in 1958 and began to skiffle in the backroom of his home in Tuckswood Lane with his mates. Father Albert Watling was so impressed and genuinely interested in his sons hobby that he offered to buy a snare drum to help the boys out. Albert paid five pounds for a Kit Kat snare drum and adorning cymbal. As the Four Deckers they played their debut gig at the Spread Eagle Ph, in Sussex street, Norwich in 1959. Needing a singer a work colleague of Alberts at Laurence and Scotts offered to help out and went under the name Jon Ramon and the group became Jon Ramon & The Four Deckers Rhythm Group. The group featured many guest jammers during its existence, but the core of the group were as above.
