Formed by Pease and Kent after their previous band The Vigilantes had split. They were joined by their old friend Knowles, who had played with them in The Ely City Ramblers; since that time he had switched to playing Hawaiian guitar. The group were noted for their versatility and repertoire, with drummer Patterson being quoted as saying, “The only thing we don’t play is the National Anthem.” Pease later increased the dynamics of the band by taking up the saxophone. In January 1966 the group auditioned for Peter Fenn, musical director at Anglia Television, for a TV spot and although his initial response seemed favourable nothing came of the session. The group’s prospects though were buoyed in the summer of 1966 when they came third in the 1966 Station Hotel Open Air Beat Comp (appx2). The Corsairs folded in late 1969 leaving Pease to form The Derek Pease Trio in 1970, who became better known as Triangle in 1971.
