The line up above is given as Bert Galey & His Circus Bd in September 1966 as published by Norman 1066 Fields (appx3) in his Anglettes column in the monthly jazz magazine Crescendo. Bandleader Bert Galey comes onto our radar in October 1954, playing at The Lido BR, Nch. However, we noticed from earlier research that he was the first resident band at The Samson & Hercules BR, Nch when it opened as a Dance Hall/Pool in 1935. Bertie Edmund Galey was born in 1905. He turned professional in 1927 and went on to become chairman of The Kitchen’s Accordion Club, Nch in 1937 and an official for The East Anglian Accordion Championships. His bands played regularly around Norfolk and were resident at many of the larger venues they were the preferred band for the City of Norwich School Old Boys annual dinner dance up until 1964 when he became the bandleader at The Hippodrome Circus, GY. Many of the Hippodrome performances were recorded and broadcast on BBC One and included Galey directing the band. We lose track of his movements around late 1966.
The band had multiple singers and guest performers
