“The Argonauts formed at The Silver Jubilee Boys School (now King Edward VI School) in Bury St Edmunds in around 1965,” said Norton. “The band had already formed at school and then lost their drummer and asked me to join. I had been playing since I was twelve. We played small gigs at first, like during the interval between films at the local Odeon. I remember Steve’s father ferrying the band about for shows. One night we were walking past the Post Office Social Club, BSE and heard a band playing so we went in to watch. During their break we told them we had a band. They let us use their equipment and we got up and did a few numbers and at the end of the night they paid us £5, looking back it was all very cheeky.” Around 1967 the band briefly changed their name to Mood.
