Line-up unk: This group were uncovered by Pete Frame in his Rockin’ Around Britain publication, 1999. We are reasonably confident that The LeRoys did not hail from Wisbech but formed in Walthamstow around 1958, with the two main protagonists being guitarist Lenny Brooks and drummer Roy Prentice, hence The LeRoys. Frame refers to the band’s frontman Simon Scott and although he may have ended up in Wisbech, press for Parlophone Records, at the time, announced Scott as being born in India. Simon Scott & The Leroys played regularly throughout the region. He enjoyed NME front page recognition as a Dynamic New Star and toured as support to The Rolling Stones. The band released a pair of singles, both produced by Robert Stigwood, who also managed Scott. The first was the international release Move It Baby, which only charted in England, reaching No 37 in August 1964, unless you count their position of No 123 in the Canadian charts. In 1965, Scott broke away from The Leroys and joined The All-Nite Workers, who had previously performed as The Phrophets in London; this led to another Stigwood release. Scott signed off in 1969 with two solo singles on Polydor.
