At the heart of the Bacton, Nfk beat scene were The Coasters, recalled for us by drummer Roger Bean, “I lived in Walcott on the North Norfolk coast, and the others lived in Bacton. Tony, Keith and I were friends. Roger Hare, our lead guitarist, had moved to Bacton from Leicester; he was a bit older than us and led the group. His father ran the youth club at Bacton Village Hall, and we played a few dances there. Roger Hare went on to play with other bands. I left to join the Army in ‘63 and was stationed in West Germany, where I played in two groups, The Lawmen and The Gentlemen. My only claim to fame is playing in Hamburg with Screaming Lord Sutch & The Savages, topping the bill.”
It's belived Keith Rogers has passed away and that Roger Hare runs North Walsham Electricals and still plays.
Trivia: Roger says his only claim to fame was playing in Hamburg, Germany, but glosses over the fact he represented GB at the Winter Olympics of 1968 at Grenoble, France, in the Biathlon event and finished 16th out of a field of 60!
