"Formed in 1960 by Ivan Carling lead guitar, Rick Wills rhythm guitar, Bobby Haylock Bass guitar and Mick Clark drums. First singer was John Wildeman, replaced by Tony Tiger Middleton soon after. The band became The Sundowners shortly after Tony joined on vocals. Played all the usual school hall, social club and youth club gigs in the area. Not much changed between The Vikings and The Sundowners." IC 2017
“I started to sing at the age of 13,” said vocalist Middleton. “I would sing in The Duke Of Argyle PH, Cambridge with Barney senior on piano. In 1960 I took over from John Wildeman fronting the group, i can’t remember how i got the gig! In 1961 with a change of bass player we became The Sundowners." TM 2017
