He received his first guitar on his eight birthday in the form of a neatly re-crafted Ceylon tea chest this after to his mothers dismay he had reshaped his Joe Davis pool table into the shape of a guitar

Tony remembers his first ever excursion in live entertainment when he was only fourteen “I strummed a guitar and sang High Noon at the Regal Cinema [area required] just to get free entry." The group were later refered to as the Stateside Rock’n’Roll Show

The boys had previous form going out as the Four Capitols

The group played the Larkman PH in May 1968 supported by That Direction. The group featured Terry Merrit on drums. Terry would later become a long standing member of The Memphis Index. In July 1968 the band transformed into the Memphis Index and announced they were quitting the pub scene in favour                  a new chapter in local rock’n’roll began
