Plagued with family trouble Mac runs into trouble with the Police when he steals an old violin from school and porn’s it to buy his first guitar, caught he is cautioned by the Police who advise his parents to buy him a guitar.

He formed The Saints skiffle group whilst a member of the Thorpe St Andrew youth club. During this time the gifted Mac inspires and helps many of his friends to start playing. The first glimpse of the band in action came in May 57 when they performed a concert at the Youth Club. The group went on to perform many local concerts after this date. Some under banner The Saints and sometimes billed as Mac & The Saints.
